1. What does IH Murcia have to do with UCAM?

Instituto Hispánico de Murcia is an independent, privately run and recognised Spanish language school for foreign students established in 2000.

We offer students´ flat & host family accommodation to our own students and both UCAM and UMU (University of Murcia) have recommended our service for some years now.

4. What kind of apartments do you provide?

We offer 3 different kind of apartments:

Shared apartments. Single room in an apartment where other international and/or Spanish students live. You will share kitchen, living room and, in most cases, bathroom.
Empty apartments. You can book a full apartment for you and your friends only.
Empty apartments for only 1 person. This is the less economic option (price around twice of a single room in a shared apartment), but the most comfortable one. Bills are also higher choosing this option (80€ a month average). Please take into account that sharing an apartment with other students will improve your experience abroad.

5. Can, for example, 2 people book a 3 room apartment just for themselves?

No problem with that while paying full amount for the extra empty room.

6. How do I book a room?

In order to book a room you need to contact us to check availability. Once you had chosen your flat and in order to confirm your booking, you will have to pay a 200 € deposit that will be refunded once you leave your room at the agreed date if there is no breach of contract.

Once the bank transfer is made please send us an email attaching your bank receipt confirmation.
The room will not be fully booked, and therefore available to other students, till we receive your personal data, bank transfer receipt and signed contract.

As it is a general course and accommodation form, you will have to select ACCOMMODATION ONLY in the COURSE box and the dates you will be in Murcia, and the same below in the ACCOMMODATION box as they are required fields.

7. Could I pay my deposit and my 3 month rent all together?

You can pay just your deposit at first when you make your reservation and then, after your arrival, your rent every month, or everything in one go. Just let us know!

8. How, to whom and when can I pay my monthly rent?

You have to come to Instituto Hispánico de Murcia before the last day of the current month and pay in advance your rent in cash. You will be provided a written acknowledgment that a specified sum of money has been paid.
Do not forget that you will have to pay months fully despite of your arrival/departure date, that is to say, you will have to pay full February whether you arrive February 1st or February 5th. These are owners policies and we have to respect them.

9. When and how do I get my apartment keys?

You should confirm your estimated time of arrival. In the event of any changes, you need to let us know asap.
We will then inform your landlord and set an appointment.
As you arrive in Murcia, come and see us to do your check-in, pay your first month rent and give you all the extra information you might need plus a city street map.
Then you will be addressed to your flat to meet your landlord when s/he will welcome you and provide all your flat details.
Please let us know if you arrive Murcia after office hours, i.e 21,00 h, in order to set an appointment with your landlord. Do not forget to come to our office the following day first thing in the morning to do your check-in.

10. May I move in earlier or move out later than agreed when I booked my flat?

Should you need extra days in order to move in or out, you need to let us know in advance so that we can help you. Extra nights will have extra cost.

11. Are bed sheets, blankets, and towels included?

For hygienic reasons and for the sake of convenience, bed sheets, blankets, and towels are considered as personal use items so you should bring them with you. Of course, all apartments are equipped with beds and basic furniture (see 14 below).

12. Are pets allowed?

You should let us know beforehand in order to inform your landlord and your flatmates to check any possible allergies or inconveniences.

13. Will there be a phone land line?

Our shared flats are rarely provided with a land line. If so, expenses will be at your own cost.

14. What appliances are provided in my apartment?

Each flat is furnished and equipped with a washing machine, refrigerator and cookware.

You can find the following appliances in many of our flats, but not in all: microwave, dishwasher, dryer, iron, TV, tv digital channels, video, DVD, computer, hair dryer, air conditioning & heating.
Nevertheless, there is no compulsory requirement to provide them. If you would like to know what appliances are available in your flat, just ask us.
Internet available and working in all shared flats. Cost will be included in your monthly bill (around 10 € / person a month).

Internet available on request in empty flats (around 45 € a month).

15. What about if I break something?

If you break something due to incorrect and improper use, you will need to pay for the repair. If it was not your fault, your landlord will take care of it, but, in ll cases, you should tell your landlord right away.

When light bulbs burn out, you will need to replace them.

16. Are bills (electricity, water, gas, building charges or Internet) included in my monthly rent?

Bills are not included in your rent although some landlords include the above mentioned costs. In this case, this piece of info will be added into the flat description and contract.

Regarding Internet, please let us know for advice.

17. How much do I need to pay to cover my monthly bills?

Cost for electricity, water and gas depend on your personal use habits. It could be around 35 €/month per person, but it will very much depend on consumption.

Once the landlord had received the invoice, he will send you a copy so that you can check how much you consumed.

You should pay your bills directly to the landlord in cash. He will let you know when he will get a new invoice that should be paid.

The total bill amount due will be divided into the number of people living in the apartment, so you will only pay for your own share.

We strongly advise to make a wise use of electricity, gas, and water to avoid extra uncomfortable expenses.

18. In my flat we use gas. What number should I call to buy a tank and how much does it cost?

Call 902 103 100 and it will be delivered to your flat. Each bottle/tank costs around 12 € and it lasts about two months in a 3 people flat. We recommend to always have a spare bottle for your own sake.

19. What happens if I cancel my reservation before I arrive?

Due to past experiences and to avoid last minute cancellations, once you have booked and paid the requested amount for your room there will not be reimbursement under any circumstances.

20. Could I cancel my accommodation once my tenancy started?

If you decide to move out before the end of the agreed rental period (shall be subject to the terms and conditions agreed once you signed your contract or by means of a confirmation email), you will be breaching your contract and will not be entitled to receive any reimbursement.

21. Who will return my deposit once my tenancy ended and when can I get it back?

Remember you need to give at least a week’s notice both us and your landlord to finish your tenancy.
Then you must provide us a signed document from your landlord, authorizing us to pay your deposit back. We will be able to provide a sample letter.
After that, you will receive your deposit in cash in our office the day you leave your apartment.

22. When can I go to IH Murcia to talk about my flat management?

Our accommodation office hours are weekdays from 9.30 h to 14.00 h and from 17.30 h to 21.00 h (Tuesdays afternoon closed).

23. What should I do if I want to rent the same flat again in the future?

You found your flat thanks to our work and service provided, so any new future rent should be made by contacting us. You should also tell us about any personal arrangements you may make as far as your flat rent is concerned.

24. How can I loose my deposit?

You will loose your deposit if you:

have not paid for the rent every month.
have caused direct damages to your flat.
have not paid your bills.
have not cleaned your room when finishing your contract.
in all cases, if breach of contract.

And please remember, your deposit is not transferable to any other person.

25. Will IH Murcia provide any useful information about how to survive in Murcia?

26. Do you provide any airport transfer to/from Murcia city?

Indeed! It is a much cheaper, safer and reliable service than a public taxi. And we will be waiting for you on your arrival!

Our fees from Alicante airport are:

For 1 person 77 €
For 2 people 115 € (57,50 € per person)
For 3 people 135 € (45 € per person)
For 4 people 150 € (37,50 € per person)

Please note that these prices are based on one piece of luggage per person and departures from Alicante airport.

Let us know your full flight details in order to book this service and fell free to contact us for a bigger group transfer fee quotation or departures from different airports.

27. And... what do I do when I arrive in Murcia?

The flat owner will be in your flat to welcome you home and give you the apartment keys. Please note that your landlord will be waiting for you and will schedule his agenda for this. Hence you should provide an accurate arrival time (+- 15 min.) and date in Murcia city in order to set an appointment with him. In case you need a transfer service from the airport please check FAQ 26.
If your arrival is before 9pm on a weekday you should come the very same day of your arrival to our office to do your check in and pay your rent. Remember landlords cannot accept any money directly from you.
If you arrive after 9pm, you must come to our office the following morning.
If you arrive on a weekend, you must come to our office the following Monday.
Remember that our accommodation office hours are Monday to Friday from 9.30h to 14.00h and 17.30h to 21.00h

28. To what extend is Instituto Hispánico de Murcia responsible for students and/or landlords’ actions?

Instituto Hispánico de Murcia will only act as means of contact between the tenant and the landlord. They should avail themselves to the terms and conditions agreed upon the rental contract that they shall sign.

Under no circumstances will Instituto Hispánico de Murcia be responsible for the actions taken by any party.

1. OBJETIVOS

Este curso tiene como objetivo la renovación y la actualización de la metodología, de la teoría y la práctica de la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera.

Se pretende ofrecer al alumno la posibilidad de asomarse a múltiples facetas de la pedagogía del español como lengua extranjera con la esperanza de abrir nuevos horizontes y suscitar el interés por los diferentes aspectos, siempre complejos, del proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje.

5. DESTINATARIOS

El curso está destinado a licenciados españoles, estudiantes de las diversas Filologías y a alumnos de Tercer Ciclo, tanto nacionales como extranjeros, con escasa o nula experiencia en este campo.

En el caso de estudiantes extranjeros, deberán acreditar un dominio del español equivalente al exigido por la obtención del Diploma Superior de Español que expide el Ministerio de Educación español.

6. ACREDITACIÓN

Las personas que hayan participado en el curso y hayan sido aptos tras la evaluación del mismo, recibirán un certificado de asistencia expedido por el Instituto Hispánico de Murcia. Esta actividad no es una titulación oficial, con lo que no supone créditos para el participante.

7. DURACIÓN

Se compone de un curso de 95 horas: 35 horas teóricas que el estudiante reparte a su libre elección al ser éste un componente virtual, y 60 horas presenciales y prácticas; éstas deberán ser acordadas con el responsable del curso en Murcia, Felipe Espada Aznar.

8. IMPORTE Y PAGO

13. ¿Cuándo comienza el curso?

Durante todo el año y en cuanto realices la inscripción; ten en cuenta que es un curso individual, así que puedes empezar cuando quieras, aunque recomendamos que sea un lunes.

14. ¿Puedo hacer el curso sin ser filólogo?

Por supuesto, aunque muchos conceptos que aparecen en la parte teórica podrán ser desconocidos y su comprensión dificultosa. Sin embargo, se requieren estudios universitarios para la inscripción en este curso.

15. ¿Qué material tendré?

Te daremos un cedé con el material del curso y la evaluación, que nos tendrás que enviar por e-mail una vez contestadas las preguntas.

También te podemos enviar el material por correo electrónico o postal – coste no incluido.

16. ¿Cómo me reparto las horas de la parte teórica?

Como tú quieras y a tu gusto. Solamente te pedimos que nos avises de cuánto tiempo crees que vas a necesitar para presentarnos la evaluación, y no olvides que esta parte la puedes hacer en tu casa o donde creas conveniente y no necesitas Internet para ello.

17. ¿Voy a aprender gramática española en este curso?

No, es un curso introductorio a la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera.

No te enseñamos gramática, te enseñamos cómo enseñarla - aunque suene a trabalenguas.

18. ¿Cuándo se hace la parte práctica?

Tan pronto nos envíes la evaluación podremos empezar a ver tu disponibilidad y la de nuestros cursos para acordar una fecha. Preferimos que sea lo antes posible tras finalizar la parte teórica y recibir la evaluación corregida, sin pausas y con el compromiso serio de cumplir los plazos establecidos, pero no podemos establecer una fecha fija hasta llegado el momento.

Al decir "sin pausas" nos referimos a que no tiene ningún sentido hacer, por ejemplo, una semana de prácticas, luego unos días libres, después otra semana, luego otros días sueltos... Ten en cuenta, y esto es muy importante, que vas a formar parte de un grupo de clase y que es ilógico y totalmente anti pedagógico que hagas tus prácticas en partes, semanas sueltas o días sueltos.

Si necesitas terminar tu parte práctica lo antes posible, dínoslo al hacer la matrícula y lo tendremos en cuenta.

19. ¿Cuánto tiempo dura esta parte?

El componente práctico tiene 60 horas, así que la idea es que te incorpores a cualquiera de nuestros cursos intensivos de lengua española (20 lecciones de clase a la semana) con lo que acabarías en tres semanas.

Si tu disponibilidad no te lo permite, podremos negociar otras posibilidades, pero la primera es la más recomendable porque de otra forma tu curso se prolongaría demasiado en el tiempo.

20. ¿Las prácticas se hacen por la mañana o por la tarde?

Principalmente por la mañana, pero por la tarde también es posible; depende de la disponibilidad de los cursos. Como en la respuesta anterior, recomendamos la primera, es decir, por la mañana con el horario de 10,00 h a 13,30 h de lunes a viernes.

21. ¿Hay algún problema si tardo algunos meses en completar el curso?

Ninguno, sólo que comunícanoslo para tenerlo en cuenta.

Si transcurre más de un año entre tu inscripción y la finalización del curso, o entre la entrega de la evaluación y la realización de las prácticas, tu curso quedará cancelado por razones obvias.

22. ¿Es necesario hacer este curso para trabajar en el IH Murcia?

En absoluto; tenemos profesores en plantilla que no han hecho este curso, pero, por supuesto, disponemos de una bolsa de trabajo para futuras contrataciones donde incluimos las personas que han realizado con éxito el curso y con las que contamos para ampliar plantilla o hacer sustituciones a nuestros profesores.

Preferimos contar con personas con experiencia en nuestro equipo.

23. ¿Podré conseguir trabajo haciendo este curso?

Por supuesto que te ayudará, pero no podemos mentirte y decirte que encontrarás trabajo en cuanto acabes el curso.

Éste tiene un componente práctico muy importante que te ayudará en tu formación como profesor y, por ende, en tu búsqueda de trabajo.

No hay muchos cursos en el mercado con un componente práctico tan fuerte como el nuestro; piensa que habrás trabajado con estudiantes reales y que esto se valorará mucho a la hora de contratarte.

24. ¿Es oficial la titulación que recibiré de IH Murcia?

No. Al no ser un curso organizado ni impartido por la Universidad de Murcia o el Instituto Cervantes, no está homologado por éstos.

IH Murcia es una empresa privada sin vínculo alguno con la enseñanza pública, aunque nuestra titulación tiene el mismo valor que la de cualquier otra empresa privada a nivel nacional e internacional.

25. ¿En qué se diferencia este curso de otros organizados por el Instituto Cervantes?

Curso de español para Au Pairs

(sólo en inglés) The term au pair is French which means on equal terms. An au pair is a young person between 18 & 30 years old who becomes a temporary member of a family. Usually, it's a young girl (90 %) but more and more often, young boys are taking the opportunity to improve their language skills and get acquainted with a new culture.

In exchange for free board and lodging, a private room and pocket money (70 € a week), the au pair will take care of children and help with light housework including vaccuming, dusting, preparing the table for meal times and emptying the dishwasher.

IH Murcia is not an au pair agency. We help you use to find a caring and kind Spanish host family and make all the necessary arrangements without using an agency so you will save a vast amount of money. Please note that we can provide this service in Murcia only.

General information:

Fees: 490 € no matter length. A 2 week Spanish intensive language course is included.
Duration of the stay: from 3 to 12 months.
Free activities: IH Murcia school weekly social & activity programme included.
Age restrictions: 18 to 29 years.
Preconditions: You must be single without children and have some knowledge of Spanish.
Working hours: 35 per week.
Holidays/spare time: At least one and a half days per week are free. Au pairs have no entitlement to holiday but in many cases 1-2 weeks of holiday can be agreed upon with the families.
Pocket money: 70 € per week.
Travel costs / language course: The au pair is responsible for the costs of her/his travel and language courses. The au pair will have the opportunity of attending a language course in our school longer than the contracted two week period.
Health insurance: EU citizens have all health costs covered by the Social Health Security of Spain. They need a European Health Insurance Card from their health insurance. Non - EU passport holders should enquire with their proper local authorities about what kind of medical insurance documents they must present.
Language skills: It is helpful if the au pair speaks a little Spanish and/or English.
EU Citizens: do not need a visa to become au pair in Spain. You just need a valid passport or a valid identity card. If you want to stay longer than 3 months, you must anounce this to the aliens registration authority.
Non-EU citizens: are allowed to live as an au pair in Spain, but they are not allowed to work (and so be paid) as an au pair in Spain. If you want to live as an au pair in Spain longer than three months, you need a student visa from your local Spanish embassy. You also will have to prove that you can afford your stay as you are not allowed to work as an au pair. It is not possible that a person comes to Spain as a tourist and afterwards changes his status to be an au pair. In order to get a visa for Spain you need the following: a valid passport, the completely filled in and signed visa application form, passport sized photos, a health certificate, a certificate of good conduct and the au pair contract. Before coming to Spain, the au pair must be enrolled in a Spanish language course in our school.

Este curso está diseñado para estudiantes que quieran conseguir el máximo aprendizaje del idioma en poco tiempo. El mayor problema que se encuentra un estudiante al estudiar una nueva lengua está a la hora de desarrollar la fluidez; por ello, este curso enfatiza, aún si cabe más, nuestra metodología de acercamiento comunicativo al español.
El curso se basa en el curso intensivo 20, pero éste se compone de 25 clases semanales, de las que 10 se dedican a diferentes cuestiones gramaticales y su aplicación práctica, y en las otras 15 consolidamos lo aprendido a través de prácticas comunicativas, análisis de vocabulario y expresiones coloquiales donde irás adquiriendo y desarrollando las estrategias necesarias para comprender y formular mensajes en español.

No solamente ponemos los cinco sentidos en nuestras clases, sino dos más, dos ingredientes mágicos, ¡el sentido común y el sentido del humor!
